I went to see it. Looking at it from the side, I saw something the original may or may not have intended: two figures rising on either side, meeting above the stone, holding it between them like a pair of wings. That reading is mine. I built this version around it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe ruby is 2.6 carat, cut to the exact dimensions of the setting by a lapidary I work with, so the gold closes around it without a gap on any side.
