A white Keshi pearl held between two gold leaves. The leaves are what hold the pearl, not prongs added afterwards, and the whole ring is built around that single idea.

I carve each one in wax. The leaves grow out of the band, curl inward, and meet at the pearl from both sides. The pearl is drilled through and pinned to the leaves at two points, so it sits fixed and low rather than perched on top of a setting. That is why the ring wears flat enough for everyday wear despite the size of the stone.

The finish is where the piece comes alive. The leaves are given a fine brushed texture that catches light softly, and the flowing lines that run between them are left highly polished. Two surfaces of the same gold, reading as two different metals depending on how you turn your hand.

The pearl is a natural Keshi, roughly 11 x 10 mm, formed without a nucleus, which is why its shape is slightly irregular rather than perfectly round. The ring measures about 17 mm across at its widest point.

This one has sold. I can make it again with another Keshi pearl from my own stock, chosen to suit the same setting. No two pearls are identical, so yours will differ a little in shape and overtone. Made in 18K or 14K gold, in yellow, white or rose. On white gold the rhodium plating softens the brushed texture slightly, so the contrast between the two finishes reads quieter than it does in yellow.
