Two arms of gold that pass one another without meeting, and a Keshi pearl resting where they cross. The line is taken from the horizon over the desert dunes, where the ridge of one dune runs behind the next, and the eye follows the gap between them.

I carve the form in wax first, working both arms until the curve reads as one continuous movement rather than two ends of a band. The ring is cast in a single piece. The wide upper arm sweeps around the pearl and holds it against the lower one, so the pearl is caught between the two lines instead of sitting on top of a setting.

The pearl is drilled, and a gold pin runs into the hole and is bonded with a dedicated pearl adhesive. Nothing crosses the surface of the pearl.

The finish carries the idea further. The broad faces of both arms are given a fine brushed texture that holds the light like sand, and the edge that runs along the top and lifts toward the pearl is left polished. Turn your hand and the ridge appears and disappears.

The pearl is a white Keshi baroque, roughly 12 x 13 mm, grown without a nucleus, which is why its shape is soft and irregular rather than round. The ring measures about 17 mm across at its widest point.

This one has sold. I can make it again with another Keshi pearl from my own stock, chosen to suit the same curve. No two are alike, so yours will differ a little in shape and overtone. Made in 18K yellow gold. 14K white and rose gold are available to order.
