The pearl on this pendant comes off. A gold wire runs up the back of the loop, following its outline so it stays out of sight, and ends in a small loop at the bottom. That loop holds the pearl under tension, firmly enough that it will not slip out on its own, and releases when you want it to.

So the piece has two lives. Wear it with the pearl, or take the pearl off and wear the gold loop on its own. The back wire was shaped to look right either way, which is the part that took the longest to get correct.

The loop itself is carved in wax and cast in one piece. Two arms rise from the bail, open into a long teardrop, and close again at the base where the pearl hangs. The gold is given a fine brushed texture across the whole outer surface, with the edges left polished, so the outline of the loop stays sharp against the softer body.

The pearl is a white freshwater drop, 15 x 11 mm. The pendant alone measures 38 mm, and the chain is 42 cm.

Made in 18K yellow gold and in stock. 14K, white and rose gold are available to order, as are other chain lengths.

The same pendant is also made with a large baroque pearl, and both pearls fit this mechanism, so one can be exchanged for the other. Tell me if you would like a second pearl or a coloured stone to swap in.
