From the outside, an abalone shell is rough and dull, crusted and easy to miss on a rock. Turn it over and the inside is lined with mother of pearl, shining in every color the sea has.

The ring is made the same way. The band is brushed on the outside and polished on the inside, so the light stays close to the skin. It opens around the finger and its two ends pass each other, and each ends in a small hollow nugget of gold, about 8 by 6 mm, brushed soft and matte, with a 0.01 carat diamond set near its tip, 0.02 carat for the two.

Because the ring is open, it can be adjusted a little to the finger, and it sits well alone or in a stack.

Every ring is made to order.

Its sister ring, the Mussel, keeps the two nuggets facing each other across a straight opening. The same nuggets also come as the Requiem studs and on the Pyrosome bracelet.
