The pufferfish inflates when it is threatened, and what was a smooth fish becomes something that cannot be swallowed. That is the whole ring.

Four hollow gold forms, 8 by 6 mm each, sit around an open band whose arms cross rather than close. They are hollow because the fish is, and because a solid version of this would be unwearable on the hand. The band beneath them carries 27 black diamonds in micro pave, 0.15 carat in all, with four white diamonds set among them, 0.04 carat. Black on gold reads as shadow rather than sparkle, which is what holds the shape together.

It spans 21 mm at its widest, so it sits across the finger rather than around it.

One ring is finished and in the studio now, 14K yellow gold, 17.8 mm inner diameter, size 57 EU, US 7.75. Every other size and gold is made to order.
