A mussel lives in two halves, two shells joined at one edge that open just a little to let the sea in, and close again.

The ring holds that same moment. A single band of gold opens around the finger, and its two ends stop short of each other, each finished in a small hollow nugget of gold, about 8 by 6 mm, brushed soft and matte, with a 0.01 carat diamond set near its tip. The two nuggets face each other across the opening, 0.02 carat for the two. Unlike the Abalone Nugget Ring, where the ends pass each other, here the line is straight and the gap stays open.

The band is brushed on the outside and polished on the inside. Because it is open, it can be adjusted a little to the finger, and it sits well alone or in a stack.

One ring is finished and in the studio now, 14K yellow gold, 17 mm inner diameter, size 53 EU, US 6.75. Every other size and gold is made to order.
