A sand dollar is a flat sea urchin that lives half buried in the sand. When it dies, its pale round skeleton washes up on the beach, and it is named for how much it looks like a coin left behind by the tide.

The pendant is two hollow nuggets of gold, one above the other, brushed so the surface stays soft and matte. They are joined on the inside so the lower one swings a little from side to side as you move, never quite still. A 0.01 carat diamond is set in the lower nugget, off to one side. Together they measure 16.3 by 7.9 mm.

It hangs on a fine chain in the same gold, 42 cm, simple enough to wear every day and layer with other chains.

One pendant is finished and in the studio now, in 14K yellow gold. Every other gold is made to order.
