Product Care

Care Instructions

With a little care, a piece will look as good in twenty years as it does today. Here is what I recommend. Damage caused by improper care is not covered by the warranty.

Pearls

My pearls are cultured, sourced from seawater and freshwater shells. They are softer than most gemstones, between 2.5 and 4.5 on the Mohs scale, so they need the most attention of anything I make.

  • Put your pearls on last, after perfume, makeup and lotion have dried
  • Wipe them with the soft cloth in your box after each wear
  • Never use ammonia, detergent or any harsh chemical
  • Never use an ultrasonic cleaner or an abrasive brush
  • Store them in their own box, away from other jewelry

Diamonds

A diamond is the hardest material there is, 10 on the Mohs scale, which means it will scratch almost anything it touches, including your other pieces.

  • Store diamonds separately from the rest of your jewelry
  • Avoid abrasive brushes when cleaning

Gold

I work in 18K and 14K gold. Pure 24K gold is too soft to wear, so it is alloyed with other metals for strength.

  • Keep gold away from chlorine and harsh chemicals, including in pools and hot tubs
  • Store it in a soft pouch or its original box

Gemstones

Every natural stone is different, and they vary widely in hardness.

  • Store stones separately, so a harder one does not scratch a softer one
  • Keep them apart from gold pieces, to protect the finish on the gold

Repairs

If something needs attention, write to me at sales@layanijewelry.com. I made the piece, so I am the one who repairs it.
